Historical Commission · Meeting of August 10, 2026
Ipswich Historical Commission unanimously approved renovation plans for 13 High Street, moved by Mariana Ovnic and seconded by Laura Gresh. The commission also reviewed designs for a Hill Garage renovation at Turner Hill, with an updated memo for the Planning Board before its August 13 meeting. The commission discussed preservation agreements with Michael Steinitz of the Massachusetts Historical Commission, who confirmed that in perpetuity provisions are appropriate and noted that while some existing agreements do not reflect current best practices, they are not legally deficient.
A subcommittee will develop an approach for contacting property owners about updating agreements. The commission also discussed plans for a Mrs. Shatswell Tea Party event and a historic walking tour planned for October.
