Conservation Commission · Meeting of August 5, 2026
Ipswich Conservation Commission approved ecological restoration permit for dam removal project. At its August 5 Zoom meeting, the commission voted unanimously to issue an Order of Conditions for the Ipswich Mills Dam Removal Ecological Restoration Project, designed by the Commonwealth Division of Ecological Restoration and requiring two years of monitoring. Chair Jennifer Hughes oversaw public comments from resident Carl Gardner raising embankment design and freshwater mussel concerns; commissioners concluded ecological benefits justify the work.
The commission also issued three residential construction permits with special conditions and approved invasive species management by the Trustees of Reservations at Greenwood Farm, with required buffer zones and drift-reducing spray additives.
