Historical Commission plans Mill Dam memorialization with NOAA

Historical Commission · Meeting of April 27, 2026

IPSWICH — Historical Commission and NOAA move forward on plans to memorialize the Mill Dam. Guest Brian Kelder of the NOAA Restoration Center presented examples from similar projects in Andover, Plymouth, Billerica, and Exeter, New Hampshire, as the commission considered how to honor the dam ahead of the restoration project. Commissioner Stephen Miles and others suggested retaining granite capstones for seating or sculptural elements and displaying equipment like a sluiceway on the Riverwalk.

The commission will compile a list of ideas for workshopping with Kelder, Town Historian Gordon Harris, and Director of Planning and Development Alan Manoian.
