Select Board approves oyster planting, outdoor dining through Labor Day, and six shellfish permits

Ipswich Select Board approves outdoor dining limits and oyster habitat restoration. Chair Charles Surpitski and members voted unanimously to permit Heart and Soul Café, Brown Dog, and Zabaglione to operate outdoor seating from June 1 through September 1, with Brown Dog reducing parking space use from three to two. The Board also unanimously authorized the Massachusetts Oyster Project's 2026 juvenile oyster planting plan.
In shellfish business, the Board approved six commercial and student permits: James Geanakakis received a Commercial Over-70 permit with one abstention; Jackson Friedman, Michael Moon, Adiel Merios, John Vitale, and Oliver Hibyan were approved provisionally or conditionally on state permit submission and fee payment. The Board also reappointed four officials to standing committees and approved five one-day liquor licenses and a street-blocking permit for a May 2 road race.
