Select Board approves Pony Express license renewal and backs cooling corridors grant

IPSWICH — Select Board approves Pony Express renewal and cooling corridors grant. The Board voted unanimously to renew the three-year license agreement with Pony Express operator Royce Knowlton through January 1, 2029, and voted 5-0 to support the Planning Department's application for the Massachusetts Environmental and Climate OneStop Cooling Corridors Grant to install microforests at identified heat islands. The Board also unanimously adopted the Federal Emergency Management Hazard Mitigation Plan, required for a $15 million state grant, and reaffirmed its rejection of a water bill abatement for 17 Manning Street.
During the fiscal year 2027 budget review, staff reported 2,300 permits issued last year and water department septage revenue of approximately $400,000 from outside communities.
