IPSWICH — The Select Board discussed a $389,879 federal SAFER Grant to support hiring two additional firefighters, with a vote expected October 19 after the Fire Department provides cost analysis. Fire Chief Paul Parisi explained that the three-year grant would fund a portion of salary and benefits on a declining basis, requiring the town to assume increasing costs beginning in FY28. The board must decide by October 22 whether to accept the grant.
In other business, the board voted unanimously to appoint Mae Borgman as the first student representative to the Shade Tree and Beautification Committee, approved a Common Victualler License for Heart and Soul Café, and approved seven One Day liquor license applications via consent agenda. The board also heard the first of two public hearings on the ReInvest Inclusive Utility Investment Program, which would finance energy efficiency improvements for customers.
