IPSWICH — Select Board rescues special election vote after YMCA polling location falls through. Chair Michael Dougherty explained that new information regarding YMCA availability triggered a scheduling review of the previously approved July 28 Special Town Meeting and August 11 Special Election. After weighing three options and receiving clarification from the Town Clerk that combining a local ballot with the September state primary would require running two separate elections, Vice Chair Carl Nylen moved to rescind the Board's prior vote, and the motion passed unanimously, 5-0.
The Board agreed to continue discussing scheduling options after obtaining additional information from the Town Clerk, Town Manager, Town Moderator, and YMCA regarding election logistics and facility availability. Jamie Fay of the Public Safety Building Committee stated that each month of delay adds approximately 100,000 dollars to project costs.
