IPSWICH — Select Board schedules special town meeting on public safety building project. Chair Michael Dougherty opposed the 4-1 vote to hold a Special Town Meeting on July 28 and special election on August 11, citing procedural concerns and precedent, while board members Sarah Player, Linda Alexson, and Charles Surpitski backed another vote on the project after it failed to meet the two-thirds threshold at Annual Town Meeting despite majority support. In other business, the board unanimously approved a $100,000 withdrawal from the Fiscal Year 2026 Special Education Reserve Fund for unanticipated mandated special education expenses and unanimously swore in new Town Manager Brendan Sweeney.
