Subcommittee nominates two members to regional shellfish task force

Shellfish Subcommittee to the Select Board · Meeting of January 13, 2026

Ipswich Shellfish Subcommittee nominates two to regional harvest task force. The committee unanimously selected Paul Damon as commercial license representative and Michael Walker as recreational license representative to the new Ipswich Shellfish Harvest Task Force, a subcommittee of the Northeast Coastal Coalition that will report monthly to the Select Board starting in February. Linda Alexson, Subcommittee Chairperson, was previously appointed.

In parallel action, the Select Board voted unanimously to cut the 2026 commercial permit license fee to $300 from $400 for one year amid clammer financial hardship. Regional Shellfish Supervisor Wayne Castonguay reported the persistent N4.15 closure near Plum Island Sound remains linked to over one thousand seagulls roosting on the Middle Ground, with pollution markers now trending toward reopening thresholds.
