Shellfish Subcommittee to the Select Board · Meeting of July 7, 2026
IPSWICH — River contamination closed Ipswich shellfish beds, with no financial compensation announced for affected harvesters. At its July 7 meeting, the Shellfish Advisory Subcommittee to the Select Board agreed to invite commercial permit holders to a September meeting to discuss permanent regulations on the temporary 300-pound harvest limit, extended yearly for seven years. Chair Linda Alexson led discussion of contamination near Nabby's Point and dredging plans for the Ipswich River, potentially requiring another two years for permits.
The subcommittee also agreed to post a rainfall chart on its website clarifying closure procedures.
