Ipswich Utilities begins green infrastructure project
The Town of Ipswich announced the Ipswich Utilities Department began the High Street Green Infrastructure Project Oct. 1 at 272 High Street, with main work done by December 2026 and the office EV charger out of service during construction.
The Town of Ipswich announced that the Ipswich Utilities Department began the High Street Green Infrastructure Project on Oct. 1, 2026, at its office at 272 High Street.
The project will modernize the site with environmentally friendly stormwater management and refreshed landscaping. Planned features include permeable paver parking with ADA-accessible spaces and EV charging, porous asphalt walkways with granite steps, rain gardens and native planting beds, and rainwater harvesting for drip irrigation.
Main site work is scheduled to be substantially complete by December 2026, with final plantings installed in spring 2027. Raffaele Construction Corp. of Swampscott is performing the construction.
Customers are asked to pay bills online when possible during construction, which the town calls the easiest and fastest option. The Utilities drop box may be temporarily moved on site during certain phases of construction, and if the on-site box is unavailable, customers can use the drop box at Ipswich Town Hall.
The EV charger at the Utilities office will be out of service for the duration of construction, though other public EV chargers are available throughout town.
The Utilities office will stay open during normal business hours throughout the project, though brief closures may be needed during specific construction phases. Any closures will be posted in advance at the office entrance and on the town's website.
Questions about the project can be directed to CJ Kanouff at ckanouff@ipswichutilities.org or (978) 356-6635 ext. 1217.
