Ipswich announced Oct. 21 that its Public Health Department, working with the North Shore Health Project/ONESTOP Harm Reduction Services, will host an overdose response training for the community.

The session is scheduled for Nov. 16, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Ipswich Town Hall, Meeting Room C (upper level), 25 Green Street. Colleen Fermon, the town's director of public health and opioid abatement coordinator, is encouraging community members to take part.

The training will cover how to recognize an overdose and how to respond to one. Attendees will receive free naloxone, a medication that temporarily reverses an opioid overdose. Residents can register for the training.

Those who cannot attend the session can still learn to use naloxone nasal spray through a video on the Public Health Department's webpage.

Free naloxone is also available directly from the Public Health Department and from the town's Overdose Response Cabinets. Indoor cabinets are located inside Town Hall on each floor near the AED and first aid kits, at the Public Library by the elevator on each floor, and at the Hall Haskell House restroom. Outdoor cabinets are installed at the Central Street Fire Station, on the Manning Street side of the building, and at the Linebrook Road Fire Station. The naloxone in these cabinets can be used by a bystander in an emergency or taken by residents to keep at home or in a car.

Residents can also contact North Shore Health Project/ONESTOP, the syringe services provider for Ipswich, by calling or texting a confidential line at 978-515-0455 to receive free naloxone and fentanyl test strips and to learn how to recognize an overdose.
