School Committee · Meeting of June 4, 2026

Ipswich School Committee rates Superintendent Brian Blake "needs improvement" as he enters his final year in the district. Chair Dianna Freehan read the evaluation, which rated Blake proficient on instructional leadership and community engagement but flagged budget-process delays and collaboration gaps; a minority of members favored a proficient rating overall. The committee also voted 6-0 to approve $450,000 in Paine Trust grants after requests topped $649,498, and 7-0 to adopt a revised special-education policy, JKAA.

Feoffees representative Sandy Colby told the board the trust's roughly $47 million fund sits $15 million above its inflation-adjusted floor, prompting one member to ask "what's the harm" in raising the 3 percent annual payout rate. Superintendent Blake said the district is racing a July 16 deadline with the state school-building authority, with a new elementary school potentially opening in September 2029 if the timeline holds.
